Wezesha Msichana – Empower a Girl

Wezesha Msichana, Swahili for “Empower a Girl”, is an initiative focused on strengthening the economic resilience of adolescent girls and young women, particularly teenage mothers and vulnerable girls.

Through economic empowerment, skills development and livelihood opportunities, the programme seeks to strengthen girl- and young-woman-headed households, promote financial independence and improve the overall wellbeing of adolescent girls and young women and their families.

Our Approach

Wezesha Msichana combines practical skills, financial knowledge, market opportunities and partnerships to help girls and young women build pathways towards economic resilience and self-reliance.

Skills Development

Participants receive practical skills training in:

  • Tailoring
  • Mat making
  • Crochet

These skills are designed to equip adolescent girls and young women with opportunities for income generation and self-reliance.

Financial Literacy

The programme provides training on personal financial management, basic economic principles and business planning. Participants are also introduced to tools such as the Business Model Canvas to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills.

Market Access Support

Wezesha Msichana supports participants to market and promote their products, creating opportunities to reach customers and generate income from their skills and enterprises.

Partnerships for Business Start-Ups

The programme collaborates with organizations that provide business loans and start-up grant support to enable teenage mothers to establish businesses collectively. Through group-based enterprises and profit-sharing models, the programme promotes sustainability and long-term economic empowerment.

Empowering Girls Through Economic Opportunity

Economic resilience can create greater opportunities for girls and young women to build independent and sustainable futures. Through Wezesha Msichana, WETEC KENYA supports adolescent girls and young women to develop practical skills, strengthen their financial knowledge, access markets and explore opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
