Welcome to Miduara Yetu
Miduara Yetu – Our Circles
Miduara Yetu, Swahili for “Our Circles”, is a vibrant girls’ movement-building initiative that brings together adolescent girls and young women aged 10–24.
The programme creates safe and empowering spaces where girls and young women can connect, learn, organize and collectively amplify their voices.
Through solidarity, leadership development and collective action, participants are empowered to advocate for issues affecting their lives and communities.
Our Approach
Miduara Yetu uses a range of activities and safe spaces designed to strengthen girls’ confidence, leadership, wellbeing, knowledge and participation.
Girl Clusters and T-Spaces
Regular check-in meetings provide adolescent girls and young women with opportunities to discuss challenges and experiences with WETEC staff. Share and Care sessions provide safe spaces where participants can share issues and collaboratively find solutions. The programme also provides psychosocial support through art therapy, peer-to-peer support and sessions with the support of a qualified psychotherapist.
Girl Rights Clubs
Girl Rights Clubs are established in schools to strengthen girls' leadership, confidence and participation while creating safe spaces for girls to learn, connect and express themselves. Through peer learning, leadership activities, dialogue and advocacy, the clubs challenge harmful community norms and narratives that limit girls' education, leadership and participation while promoting positive attitudes and greater support for girls' rights and opportunities.
Teso Girl Convening
The annual Teso Girl Convening brings together adolescent girls and young women and duty bearers for dialogue, learning, advocacy and collective action. The convening provides girls with an opportunity to amplify their voices, engage decision-makers and develop collective solutions to challenges affecting their rights, leadership and wellbeing.
Creating Spaces Where Girls Can Lead
Miduara Yetu is about more than bringing girls together. It is about creating spaces where girls and young women can connect, build confidence, find support, develop leadership and collectively advocate for change.
