Community Engagement/Dialogue (Jamii Stawi)

The "Jamii Stawi'' is a Swahili for ‘Prosperous Communities’ the program is dedicated to community engagements and dialogues, with a primary focus on ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and fostering safe, inclusive communities. While our initiatives primarily work with girls, we actively involve boys to shape them into male allies who speak out against SGBV and violence against women.

Key Components

SGBV Dialogues in Schools:.

Awareness campaigns in primary and secondary schools in Teso South and Teso North Inclusive SRHR education for both girls and boys.

Engaging Stakeholders:

Collaborating with children’s officers, local administrators, Ministry of Health, and the police in school dialogues to address key issues.

Community dialogues in GBV hotspot areas in partnership with the judiciary, Directorate of Children Services, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Health.

Community Solutions:

Addressing issues like teenage pregnancies, HIV, and implementing the return-to-school policy for teenage mothers.

Ensuring clear referral pathways by engaging key stakeholders.

Gender Responsive Budgeting:

- Training government officials and budget officers on gender-responsive budgeting.Survivor Support

- Establishing referral pathways for survivors.

- Introducing art therapy for survivors.

IMPACT

The Jamii Stawi program aims to:>

Build the capacity of 500 Male models and Allies: Actively involving boys to speak out against SGBV and violence against women and sexual reproductive health More than 200 community engagement,; Community Collaboration: Engaging key stakeholders to address and find solutions for issues affecting AGYW.
